White House, Congress push for bailout deal - Yahoo! News

White House, Congress push for bailout deal - Yahoo! News: "700 billion buying up devalued mortgage-backed securities and other toxic debt from banks and investors.

'We're making a lot of headway; I think it's possible to get this thing done tonight,' said Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont. 'I can't guarantee it,' Baucus quickly added.

The House was scheduled to convene at 1 p.m. EDT Sunday and members there were hoping they could vote on a bill by that evening and go home to campaign for re-election. The Senate isn't scheduled to go back into session until Monday.

Presidential politics again played a role in the bargaining. Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama called key negotiators and portrayed themselves as helping without getting directly involved in the talks.
Bush expressed confidence earlier Saturday that lawmakers soon would approve a rescue plan while acknowledging that many Americans are frustrated and angry at the amount of money taxpayers are being asked to put up for covering Wall Street firms' mistakes."

Why So Many Diets Do Not Work. | The Writers' Cafe

Why So Many Diets Do Not Work. The Writers' Cafe: "to do some research on the entire topic of what is commonly known as the high protein diet. I suppose now might be a geat time to state that I am not an MD, and am not making any official dietary reccomendations here. My hope is simply to educate the reader using relatively easy (non-technical) terminology.
Llow-carb diets are dietary programs that restrict carbohydrate consumption usually for weight control. Foods high in digestible carbohydrates (e.g. breads, pasta) are limited or replaced with foods containing a higher percentage of proteins and fats (e.g. meats, soy products) and often other foods low in carbohydrates (e.g. green leafy vegetables).
From wikipedia (link below)
Low-carbohydrate diets
The precise definition of low-carbohydrate diets varies greatly. The term is most commonly used to refer to ketogenic diets, i.e. diets that restrict carbohydrate intake sufficiently to cause ketosis like the Atkins diet,[1][2][3] but some sources consider less restrictive variants to be low-carbohydrate as well…"

Why So Many Diets Do Not Work. | The Writers' Cafe

Why So Many Diets Do Not Work. The Writers' Cafe: "throwing the entire human body into a metabolic pathway which is known as ketosis. This potentially dangerous metabolic pathway kicks in because of an extreme lack of carbohydates.

The body can no longer utilize its normal fuel source and now must turn to either breaking down stored fat (this is what we are hoping for and why we diet) or begin to break down either ingested protein, or alternatively break down protein which makes up the body, perhaps even breaking down muscle through cataboloic pathways (this is usually a bad thing)

Protein is made of amino acids, amino acids contain nitrogen. Excess nitrogen in the body is actually very harmfull. The excess nitrogen (nitrogenous wastes) get removed by the body via the kidenys."

Major Conflict

Major Conflict: "having a hard time understanding how Americans think anymore.

Not all Americans, of course. I can relate to my fellow Democrats
and I understand hardcore Republicans who will always support
whatever candidate is most likely to promote the needs of the
military-industrial complex.

But the swing voters and perpetually undecideds and independents
are a real puzzle. They seem to be totally disconnected from
our nation's recent history and who was responsible for the
good times and who was responsible for the bad times.

The last seven and a half years have been a real mess and we've had a Republican president. No matter how many times John McCain uses the word 'maverick' per hour, doesn't it
seem only fair he (being the GOP nominee) should have to shoulder some of the blame for the problems his party has caused?

And on the flip side, shouldn't the Democrats (especially Obama)
get some credit for belonging to the party of Bill Clinton...
a leader who presided over our last era of peace and prosperity?

Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler » September 11, Not In Memoriam But In Resolve

Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler » September 11, Not In Memoriam But In Resolve: "I remember that day in 2001, like it was yesterday and I think I can safely speak for others as well as myself, that the resolve to bring justice to those that perpetrated that crime and their brothers, brutally and with an ultimate finality has not diminished one iota.

See what you out there on the left will NEVER understand about us on this side of the aisle is that we are capable of prioritizing the critical, important, and “nice to have” from the single issue that you so love to use in your 2 page playbook of ideology. We have minds that can rationalize an immediate threat from a mild nuisance.

So today we’ll remember that terrible day, perhaps shed a tear and once again resolve and swear before Almighty G-d that America will always stand for justice in a dangerous world.

We true Americans will always know the direction peril lies in and will not be distracted by the politics of victimhood, class-warfare and socialist ideology that places true patriotism in a trash bin."

Calm thinking, clever writing and clear response to another ultra-right blog.

The Writers' Cafe: "There is no sharing in the flock, and constant pushing and shoving. From the little research I have already done on Chekhov, he was greatly concerned about the rights of man, as mentioned in The Seagull.

My personal belief is that there is no shortage of wealth in this nation, as well as in the world. Political theorists would have us believe that the economy of our country has taken a major downturn simply because perhaps a handful of the wealthiest have lost a few poorly placed bets"

Political theorists would have us believe that the economy of our country has taken a major downturn simply because perhaps a handful of the wealthiest have lost a few poorly placed bets on the great economic roulette wheel of “high tech stocks”. Our nation’s leader would now have you believe the same “voodoo economy” nonsense that his party predecessors have promoted. Many armchair critics have already sited the president’s agenda as nothing short of class war. I suppose I could go on with this thread but do not want alienate too many of my potential readers."

Philosophy- The Spiral Staircase. | The Writers' Cafe

Philosophy- The Spiral Staircase. The Writers' Cafe: "Continuing with the above idea we might adopt a similar but somewhat different analogy to explain life’s ups and downs and that might more appropriately be called the Chutes & Ladders metaphor for life. Like the board game for small children we may find ourselves to be continuously on this cycle of working, climbing, building, and then perhaps falling, coasting, or maybe we are just letting ourselves slide. You can aply the Chutes & Ladders concept to just about any endeavor in life. It could be the student who pays attention in class, slacks off (coasts) in his homework...

Thoughts, Ideas, Words, Actions.

We know we need to watch our thoughts because thoughts can turn into real things through a relatively easily understood path. Sometimes even with our predictive powers we can bring negative results upon ourselves. This weekend I had taken my daughter to one of these rock climbing walls and was truly taken aback by what one grandfather was telling his grandson.

The man was telling the young boy, who was having trouble climbing the wall. Of course you want be able to climb it. You just can't do it. He went on to deride the child telling him how worthless he was etc. I wanted to make sure he did not say anything to my daughter. The problem is predictions can be powerful.

Luckily just like negative predictions can have disastrous results, so too positive predictions can have beneficial results.

The Secret of Ideas!

Ideas are very Tricky things.

Ideas are great, ideas are valuable. I have thousands of ideas each day. What is the idea of an idea. An idea is some unique way of viewing something. You might have a great idea about how to make money. Here you are on the world wide web, reading one of my blogs, and you may well have it in mind to make some money on the web. Then one might wonder if the author of this blog has some sort of secret on how to make money on the web, then how come the author of this blog is not himself doing that thing which produces income.

The answer to that question is quite a slippery slope indeed. The main answer to the question is that there are some very special skills and abilities that I have. However there are other skills and abilities that other people have. I need to find the other people who have the skills and abilities which I lack, and those very same people should be looking to enlist me to accomplish their goals.

This very important secret to obtaining wealth is called collaboration.

The Writers' Cafe

The Writers' Cafe: "Typically a pile might get to a maximum of say between 7 to 12 cards before someone would win. I can not remember who flipped first, but it was based on who won the previous pot, or on who challenged the kid to flip. That was the equivalent to the $5 dollar table, it had the energy level of the roulette wheel.

But that kind of game was simply not fun or exciting enough for the big winners of the day, who typically walked around with stacks of baseball cards, that required rubber bands if you wanted to casually hold them in one hand. These boys had higher stakes that were generated according to the folowing"

The Writers' Cafe

The Writers' Cafe: "something about flipping a baseball card up into the air, and depending on how the card landed, that determined who would win that particular card. That may have been one way to flip cards, and I do remember seeing this method used, but that was not the true, adrenalin rush producing high stakes, baseball card flipping that I am talking about here.

The baseball card flipping seen at Battle Hill, was more like a craps table in Atlantic City or Las Vegas, than any kind of school yard game"

The Writers' Cafe

The Writers' Cafe: "had a good day at the early morning flipping session before school. The early morning flipping session was quite a site to see at Battle Hill Elementary School in Union NJ. The various lawns of the school was dotted with clusters of typically between four to seven boys.

The girls were no where to be found amongst the baseball card flipping circles. They were somewhere on the periphery playing with their jacks, jump rope, or some kind of sing song hand clapping games that included lyrics about doctors, lawyers, indian chiefs. It really was not correct to be liking girls at this point anyway, so lets get back to the real excitement, the baseball card flipping."

Ketosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ketosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia: "Metabolic pathways
Most medical resources regard ketosis as a physiological state associated with chronic starvation.[citation needed] Glucose is regarded as the preferred energy source for all cells in the body with ketosis being regarded as a crisis reaction of the body to a lack of carbohydrates in the diet. In recent years this viewpoint, both the body's preference for glucose and the dangers associated with ketosis, has been challenged by some doctors.[7][8][9]
Ketone bodies, from the breakdown of fatty acids to acetyl groups, are also produced during this state, and are burned throughout the body. Excess ketone bodies will slowly decarboxylate into acetone. That molecule is excreted in the breath and urine. When glycogen stores are not available in the cells (glycogen is primarily created when carbohydrates such as starch and sugar are consumed in the diet), fat (triacylglycerol) is cleaved to give 3 fatty acid chains and 1 glycerol molecule in a process called lipolysis"

google8472a43203793774,

Sometimes life (Hashem) throws us a curve ball. We swing and we miss, and sometimes even get upset. This post, G-d willing, is the post I hope to complete which will be the continuation of a piece which was published in a newsletter over 14 years ago, before the internet as we know it today even existed.

That particular piece can be found @ http://thewriterscafe.org. After a few technical adjustments I hope I"H to produce this article today, Bli Nedder.
